Jonathan Ishee, Executive Chairman & Founder
Jonathan co-founded Broad River Furniture in 2003 with a single location in Pineville, NC. Since then, he has led the acquisition of multiple companies and re-entry into previously failed markets. Under Jonathan’s leadership, the Company has grown to number 63 on the Furniture Today Top 100 Retailers list and has been one of the fastest growing furniture companies in the country. Jonathan also oversees real estate for Broad River Furniture and has developed over 300,000 SF of retail space. Jonathan’s passion for the Customer, drive for continuous improvement and strategic decision making have helped Broad River Furniture thrive in a tough business environment.
Prior to starting Broad River Furniture, Jonathan led the Interactive Department at GodwinGroup, the largest advertising agency in Mississippi. Jonathan also spent several years learning the furniture business under the tutelage of his uncles at Miskelly Furniture, another Top 100 Retailer. As early as junior high, Jonathan was learning the retail craft by working alongside his grandfather at the venerable Howard’s Department Store.
Jonathan graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Mississippi College in 2000 where he was a member of the tennis team. He then earned his MBA from Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management in 2003. Jonathan has returned to Vanderbilt to lecture on entrepreneurship and advise aspiring entrepreneurs.
Jonathan and his wife Anne are members of Westminster Presbyterian Church and have been happily married since 2007. They are the proud parents of Max and Sims Ishee.
Jonathan is a passionate golfer and enjoys playing and watching sports of all kinds. He is a hopeless fan of the Mississippi State University Bulldogs. Jonathan is also an avid reader and enjoys business writers Michael Lewis and Seth Godin as well as history.
Jonathan is a member of Young Presidents Organization, was named to the Top 40 under 40 by the Charlotte Business Journal and a Mover and Shaker by Business Leader Magazine in 2009. He was also named a Top 50 Entrepreneur in 2010.
He is involved with several charities and is a former board member of CharlotteOne and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Jonathan is also a member of Social Venture Partners, where he works with SEED20, and has worked with the strategic planning committee for Y Readers. He is also involved with Beds For Kids and has been a supporter since its inception.
Charlie Malouf, President & Chief Executive Officer
Charlie’s advanced experience in operations, logistics and technology have helped Broad River Furniture launch pioneering initiatives such as its “Same Day Delivery” program. His keen insights in online advertising (including search engine marketing, email marketing, text message marketing and social media) have helped keep Broad River Furniture one step ahead of the competition.
Prior to his retail furniture career, Charlie founded and sold D2 Interactive, a software development & e-business services firm. At the time that Charlie sold D2 Interactive, he had built the company over five years into Mississippi’s premier web development & e-marketing company with offices in Jackson, Miss., and Oxford, Miss.
Charlie graduated with a Bachelor of History degree from Millsaps College in 1997 where he received all-conference D-III football honors and was a member of the baseball team.
Charlie and his wife Kelli attend Church at Charlotte and have been happily married since 2007. They are the proud parents of boys, Drew & Luke.
Charlie enjoys sports and technology. He is a fan of Apple, Seth Godin, the Ole Miss Rebels, the Chicago Cubs, the Carolina Panthers and the Charlotte Hornets. He enjoys playing softball, basketball and flag football in his spare time when he’s not chasing after Drew & Luke.

Jonathan Houck, Vice President of Merchandising, Visual Impact & Store Design
Jonathan joined Broad River Furniture in June 2011 with almost 20 years experience in brand development, marketing/campaign solutions and product development. Prior to joining Broad River Furniture, Jonathan worked for 4 years in the Small Box retail industry as the Director of Softlines Brand Management for a Fortune 500 company and 6 years in product development creating a Vintage Denim Brand exclusively offered by a Southern Department Store Chain. Jonathan grew up in a furniture family in Lenoir, NC.
Todd Jones – Vice President of Retail Performance
Todd joined Broad River in June, 2013, as the Regional Sales Manager, Central Region, and was promoted to Regional Sales Director in March, 2015. Beginning in June 2015, Todd served as the Interim Vice President of Sales until he was promoted in April 2016 to Vice President of Retail Performance.
Todd has spent his entire career in furniture, beginning as a Store Manager and later, a New Store Project Manager with The Spencer Group in Memphis, Tennessee (now Dufresne Spencer Group), an Ashley HomeStore licensee. He then served as Regional Sales Manager for LENT, Inc., an Ashley HomeStore licensee headquartered in Greenville, North Carolina, before joining Broad River.
A native of Cleveland, Mississippi, Todd attended Mississippi State University where he studied finance. The goal of his continuous work to create a culture of excellence and superior guest experiences is to drive market share for Broad River. In his limited free time, Todd enjoys sports, cooking and traveling.
Karen McKenzie, Vice President of Marketing & Communications
Karen’s mission at Broad River is to drive store traffic through effective and efficient marketing of Ashley HomeStore. Her extensive marketing experience encompasses leadership positions at national and regional mass and specialty retailers, including a Fortune 50 company, along with several advertising and media agencies. Throughout her career, Karen has been a strong advocate of the customer and has focused her priorities on enhancing customers’ experiences with the brands at every touchpoint.
A native of Texas, Karen loves burnt orange and is a proud fan of her alma mater, The University of Texas at Austin, from which she received a BBA in Marketing. She and her husband enjoy visiting and being visited by their children and grandchildren, in addition to entertaining and traveling. Karen also enjoys reading and playing her piano, with her miniature schnauzer nearby.
Manny Rodrigues – Senior Vice President, Human Capital
Manny leads our critically important Talent strategy. We invest in our greatest asset, our people, because our employees are the primary means for achieving our goals. Securing, retaining and maximizing top talent are the pillars to our talent strategy. With over 15 years of Human Resources experience, Manny brings a passion and skill to our leadership team.
Prior to joining Broad River Furniture, Manny led talent acquisition organizations at Liberty Mutual Insurance, Bank of America and Enterprise Rent A Car. A native of Rhode Island, Manny moved to Charlotte, NC in 2003 as a key member of the Johnson & Wales University team. As their Director of International Relations, Manny traveled to over 30 countries establishing relationship and educational partnerships with the University.
Manny received his undergraduate degree in International Business and Finance from Johnson & Wales University, Providence Campus. He studied Economics at the University of Milan, Italy and is multilingual. In 2009, Manny was inducted into the Johnson & Wales University, College of Business Hall of Fame for his success and leadership in the Human Resource field.
Manny and his wife Graylynn attend Church at Charlotte and have been happily married since 2008. They are proud parents of James and John Wells Rodrigues. Manny enjoys sports and reading. He is a fan of New England sports team, Chelsea FC and USA/Portugal National soccer teams.
Bill Woodman – Vice President of Finance
Bill was promoted to Vice President of Finance for Broad River in September 2016, after having served as Interim Vice President of Finance since June 2015. He is a CMA (Certified Management Accountant) and received his undergraduate degree with a major in accounting at Bryant University in Rhode Island.
Having spent his career in start-ups, high growth companies, realignments, turnarounds and a number of mergers and acquisitions, he is recognized as a change agent in the finance area.
Bill began his career in Boston in high-tech, biotech and telecommunication industries with such companies as Baird Corporation, Behring Diagnostics and Telco Systems. Moving to Charlotte in 2002, he was CFO for CloverTex and Ultra Machine before embarking on consulting roles with Duke Energy and Polymer Group Inc. for post transactional work.
Charlie Workmon – Senior Vice President, Operations
Charlie oversees all aspects of home delivery for our valued Customers, while developing and executing key initiatives and processes to improve the in-home customer experience. In addition, he oversees all aspects of transportation and distribution services between Broad River and our vendor partners, including the management of our long-haul deliveries between our cross-dock facilities. Charlie also serves as the primary liaison between Broad River and our home delivery and distribution partners.
Charlie brings a wealth of skills and best practices in home delivery and distribution gleaned from his 20 years of experience with retailers and manufacturers. Having worked on delivery trucks, in warehouse operations and dispatching, he literally grew up in the distribution business. Most recently, he served as Director of Business Development for XPO Last Mile in Marietta, GA, where he developed solutions for several major home furnishings retailers including Nebraska Furniture Mart, Ethan Allen, Bob’s Discount Furniture, Macyʼs and other Ashley Furniture HomeStore licensees.
Charlie attended the University of Mississippi. He loves football, having recently served as the Head Coach of an Atlanta-area high and middle school program. He also enjoys Ole Miss football, fly fishing, hiking, history and reading. Charlie and his wife, Courtney, have been happily married since 2005 and are the proud parents of four children, Kate, Lucy, Sam and Ellie.
Stephen Carey, CMA, Director, Financial Planning & Analysis
Steve joined Broad River Furniture in May 2012 as Controller. In addition to a background in public accounting, Steve’s experience includes 25 years in the Woodworking Machinery business in Financial and Management leadership positions. Along with a wealth of experience, Steve also brings a real sense of enthusiasm to his work. Steve was attracted to Broad River Furniture by our World Class Strategy, Core Values and Customer Beliefs. “I could feel the positive company culture when I interviewed, and the people at Broad River Furniture are outstanding and impressive.”
A native of Steubenville, Ohio, Steve graduated with honors from West Virginia University with a degree in Business Administration and attended post graduate classes at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. Steve and his wife Cindy live in Charlotte and are the parents of three grown children. In his free time, Steve enjoys walking his dog, sports and traveling.
Crystal Gettys – Senior Director, Customer Care & Guest Services
Crystal is responsible for re-engineering our Customer interaction processes and policies to ensure seamless and positive experiences. Her ground-floor leadership skills in building the infrastructure of a growing Contact Center, along with her advocacy for the Customer and passion for providing an exceptional Customer experience, will be instrumental in refining all aspects of Customer Care.
She joins us after 11 years in various roles in Supply Chain, Specialty Sales, Contact Center and Operations at Lowe’s corporate campus in Mooresville. Most recently she served as the Director of Business Planning and Strategy, responsible for developing long-range, annual and quarterly business plans to deliver on the strategic objectives for the organization. She also served as an adviser for the Chief Omni-Channel Officer while managing a diverse portfolio of strategic, compliance, enhancement, continuous improvement and information services efforts.
After hours, Crystal enjoys photography, cruising country roads on a motorcycle and spending time with her husband of 13 years, their dog and cat. She holds a B.S. in Business Management with a concentration in Supply Chain and Operations from North Carolina State University.
The furniture industry is not new to Crystal. Both of her parents were employed in it for over 15 years, and growing up, she participated in furniture markets, spent time in showrooms, and held summer jobs at various companies. She’s excited to combine her professional expertise and interest in the industry into a key role at a company where she can have a direct impact on the Customer and the business as a whole.
Harold Hampton – Senior Director, IT & Business Intelligence
Harold oversees all aspects of Technology and Business Intelligence for Broad River. Prior to joining Broad River, he spent several years working for multiple startup companies as well as running his own digital media metrics company. He has spent the majority of his career managing technology and operations for several newspaper companies. Harold brings a passion for leveraging technology to empower people, streamline operations and grow the business.
A native of Wichita Kansas, Harold has B.S. in Business Administration from Wichita State University. After having lived in several places around the country, he and his wife Debbie moved to Charlotte in 2001. Both enjoy their beach time and are huge baseball fans.
